February 22, 2023

Personalisation has always been very big in e-commerce, but now product customisation is becoming a big thing too. Ensure that you're ahead of the game by choosing one of these apps for your Shopify store.

1. Product Customizer

Features

Product Customizer offers an easy-to-use app with exceptional customer service. With Product Customizer, adding an unlimited number of customisation options to your products is made very simple. Your customers can create products using features such as file uploads, dropdown options, and text boxes.

A sizeable part of ShopStorm's sales strategy is the strength of their support service. They put a lot of emphasis on how friendly and knowledgeable their customer support team is, and how they are ready, and happy, to assist you with installation and questions you might have.

A selection of the features available in Product Customizer include:

  • Allowing customers to fill in text as part of an order.
  • Providing file upload fields for customising products such as photo retouching or canvas prints.
  • Adding new option types and unlimited options to each of your products.
  • Saving time by managing all of your customisations, meaning no more variants-related confusion.
  • Using saved sets of options to quickly add sets of customisations to new products.

Price

Product Customizer is a fixed-price app charged at $5.99 per month. ShopStorm offers Product Customizer for free on a trial that lasts for 7 days.

2. Product Builder

Features

Shopify offers you product variants and options, but doesn't offer the functionality of letting your customers totally build their product. This is where Product Builder comes in.

The example they use on their site is the one you've probably seen something on car dealership sites – you pick your car model, pick the color you want, pick what style of wheel, select any additional options, etc. and as you go through the image visibly changes based on your selections.

This used to be something that Shopify merchants could only dream of, but this app by Bold Apps is making it possible.

Here are the main features:

  • Add conditions – Bold Apps have integrated some clever conditional logic options that are available to you if you need them. These 'conditions' can apply to entire steps, or even just the options within the step. Let's make this a bit clearer with an example: imagine there's a certain choice the customer has to make, which, when selected in Step 1, results in fewer choices being available in Step 2. You can make it so those options in Step 2 won't show if they do not apply to the selection made in Step 1.
  • 2D or 3D Images – when your customer selects a choice, an image appears in the preview panel. This can be a standard 2D image or a series of images that can create a 3D effect. An example of this can be seen on Bold Apps' test site here. Using 3D images is entirely optional, but if you do want to use this feature then there's a list of great photographers that can take the 3D images for you in the app instructions page.
  • Inventory tracking – when you create options in the various steps, you can link them with a specific product variant in your store. This will attach a price to this choice – which is great for transparency – as well assist you in tracking your inventory. You can choose how the app manages your inventory, too; it can ignore it entirely, hide any options that have no inventory, show but disable options with no inventory, or allow it to be selected to show an “out of stock” message. Plenty of choice!
  • Customise everything – the look of your product builder is massively customisable. You can either select from a few different existing themes, with options to change basic settings like colors, fonts, text, backgrounds, etc., or you can totally customise the appearance of the builder if you have a good command of CSS.

Price

Another fixed-price app, Product Builder costs a standard $60.00 per month. Bold Apps offers a lengthy free trial though, lasting for a total of 30 days.

3. Qstomizer

Features

Any good app should have a unique selling proposition, and Qstomizer's is that it is the only product designer on the Shopify App Store that is fully responsive. In a world where m-commerce is beginning to monopolise online shopping, ensuring that every element of your site is responsive is becoming increasingly essential. Shopify reported recently that more than 50% of sales are made from a mobile device; a good way to ensure you don't lose customers is by using a responsive product builder like Qstomizer.

Like Product Builder, the builder itself is fully customisable using CSS, so you can integrate it seamlessly into the design of your existing Shopify site.

Something that's really great about Qstomizer is how much work and time it saves you. You can have the customer's design directly printed without any manipulation done by you or your staff. The app can create images up to 2400x1750 px, in either jpeg or transparent PNG, of your customers designs.

You can apply automatic filters to the images uploaded by your customers such as black and white, colorize, find edges or a mix of them. This feature is totally unique to Qstomizer and not available in any other product building app in the Shopify App Store. These images can also be uploaded by the customer via Instagram. A great feature for a world that is becoming increasingly social online.

Another great feature that Qstomizer offers to Shopify merchants is automatic multi-language functionality. The app detects the customer's language and automatically translates the builder into either English, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, French or German. This is great for internationalising your business.

The app is designed with best practices in mind, only using the latest technology – CSS3 and HTML5 – and is fully compatible with any browser.

Price

The price of Qstomizer varies from $19.99 to $49.99 per month. This is dependent on how many products you want to customise, how many orders you process a month and how much storage space you need for your customers' images.

Qstomizer is free for 7 days.

Conclusion

Three options there for you to choose from. They all have their unique traits, and cater to those with differing budgets. Hopefully this post has made the decision easier for you, if it has then tweet at us to let us know!
