Videos for Better Product Promotion

Survey say that 71% of online shoppers find videos helpful in the decision making process. Videos are definitely a great way to promote a product, giving shoppers a better understanding of what they are buying. Nothing can be more frustrating after dealing with research, price comparisons and finally making a purchase than receiving a product that is not what one imagined.

Product videos are informative short films designed for customers to:

  • Show features and benefits of a product and how it functions.
  • Highlight the unique selling proposition of a product or service.
  • Establish the existence of the product and that it works as advertised thereby building customer trust.

Showing a product demonstration video is a way to boost sales and revenue because it increases the chances of customers buying the product. Videos are more persuasive than text and work better for customers who do not have the patience to read product information.

When using a product video to promote and demonstrate a product make sure it is engaging. Online shoppers tend to have short attention span so keep your video short but helpful and instructive. Length may depend on the product but a 30-second video, when done creatively, can already convey a lot. More than 5 minutes will usually bore shoppers. Remember that what you want is better product display, visual appeal, shopper engagement that should result in better sales generation.

Ensure Customer Follow-up for Product Review

Small things can mean a lot to customers and can make a big difference for your online business especially when it comes to customer service. One neglected part is follow-up where you can show how much you appreciate and value them doing business with you. It can also be an opportunity to ask for a product review.

A simple email can do the job but timing it right is important – not too soon, not too long. Give your shopper enough time to use and evaluate the product but not long enough that they may have already forgotten the entire experience.

Why follow up after a sale?

  • It shows customers that you give them importance.
  • Customers are not always satisfied with their purchases. A follow up gives you the chance to address their concern and rectify it.
  • It is great way to gain valuable and helpful customer insight. The majority of customers appreciate any extra effort from you. This often leads to repeat purchases and free advertising when they recommend your products to friends.

People can be motivated by goodwill. When doing a customer follow-up, aside from establishing the above-mentioned benefits, let them know that their opinion matters and may help others in their buying decision.

Online competition has become tough and excellent customer service plays an important role and if your customers experience this from you, a follow up for a product review can be easy and beneficial for the conversion of future visitors.

Online Persuasion Using Reviews and Ratings

Many buyers are influenced by what previous users have to say about a product. Promotion, even downgrading, of a product is greatly affected by the so-called “word of mouth”. The same thing applies to eCommerce hence it is important to include reviews of your product from past customers. Online shoppers are more inclined to trust what shoppers like them have to say.

Bad reviews can happen but this shows honesty and will actually reassure customers when viewing other products on your site, which may have positive reviews. Remember, discriminating online shoppers can recognize “edited” product reviews. However, you need to know how to quickly but properly act on a negative customer feedback.

There is no playing hide and seek online. If shoppers can’t find reviews about your product, they are likely to look elsewhere.

Reviews are essential and have helped keep shoppers loyal and may have been the reason why Amazon, Netflix and iTunes (to name a few) have made customer reviews a regular practice. There are different rating scales available but the most common is the 5-point rating scale or the star system.

This rating system is a simple, 3-second process that does not require customers to write anything. The questions in general say it all for the customer. “Would you recommend this product to a friend?” rated 4 stars for instance means the customer is willing to but not absolutely. Answers to other questions may explain why or a customer may briefly explain in the comment box.

Fundamentally, reviews can give doubtful shoppers the assurance they need before buying your product.
